For the price of a bus pass, you can pay a company to supply anyone's address, phone number, political affiliation, estimated income and property history. For $20 more, you can find out if that person is married or divorced, has a criminal record, and what sort of jobs he or she has worked.Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., says she will introduce a "privacy bill of rights" because identity theft and security failures of personal records have become "one of the most important issues facing us as individuals and as a nation."The availability of personal information -- downloadable onto laptop computers, which are increasingly being fitted with fingerprint technology -- is changing the culture in ways that may seem trivial but are really benchmarks for a new society already in its formative stages.A small example: Unbeknownst to the men who date her, Judy runs background checks on all of them, using a private investigator to dig out any "red flags" that would presage troubling behavior. A businesswoman in Southern California, Judy, 50, uses a company called DateSmart, whose client base has boomed in the past five years as more people confront the perils of online dating."I'm glad the information is out there," says Judy, who did not want her last name used because of concerns her suitors would read this article. "The men I'm talking to online are complete strangers. And I have absolutely no knowledge of their character other than what they're saying in their profiles. I need to feel comfortable knowing that they're not an ax murderer. The people you meet might be well dressed, but you never know if they have any criminal history. It's for (my) safety."Background checks are nothing new. What's changed are the speed with which you can obtain them, their relatively small price (some companies advertise free checks) and their growing public acceptance. The information revolution has transformed the background check into a common and casual tool, and those being scrutinized probably don't have a clue. More obvious are the security cameras embedded in nearly every major American city, including New York, Milwaukee, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles and, yes, San Francisco, where lenses record people's activities in such crime-ridden neighborhoods as Bayview-Hunters Point and the Western Addition. The spread of these cameras is championed by authorities, who say it reduces criminal activity, and criticized by the ACLU, which says the equipment is an unnecessary intrusion into public spaces.Civil liberties groups have joined the widespread outcry against the government's monitoring of Americans' phone-call records. Two weeks ago in federal court, the ACLU challenged the legal rationale behind the National Security Agency program, arguing that the NSA's actions -- involving "data mining" of records provided by AT&T and other telephone companies -- violate Americans' rights to free speech and privacy as guaranteed under the First and Fourth Amendments. Last week, privacy experts raised questions about the U.S. government's monitoring of international bank transfers -- previously secret data surveillance officials say is justified by the fight against terrorism.Americans' rights to privacy will be tested even more in the next few years as biometric technology creeps increasingly into everyday arenas. For example, on the campus of UC San Diego, biometric experts are testing a soda machine that uses both fingerprint and face-recognition technology. The machine is in a lounge for grad students in UC San Diego's computer science building."The students are very excited about getting it working," Serge Belongie, a UC San Diego associate professor of computer science, says in a phone interview. "People think it's very cool. ... No one uses money. They have accounts. What would be fun is if (the machine) recognizes you and says, 'Would you like your usual?' "If UC San Diego students are reluctant to use the machine, their privacy concerns are outweighed by convenience -- a sentiment echoed in survey after survey on biometric technology. In March, Unisys Corp. released a report on public perception of "identity management" that said convenience and efficiency were the two biggest reasons consumers would use biometric technology. (The most preferred biometric methods are fingerprints and voice recognition, according to the survey. The least preferred, because of its perceived intrusiveness, is an iris or eye scan.)Two of the biggest turnoffs for those who shun biometric technology: suspicion of how the technology works and loss of privacy. Among respondents from North America, just 56 percent said they'd be willing to share their fingerprint with a government organization such as a post office or tax authority. Among respondents from the Asia-Pacific region, 71 percent said they'd share their fingerprint with the government."As consumer confidence grows in the large-scale usage of (biometric technology) and standards are more generally comfortably adopted, you're going to see a pretty rapid migration" to it, says Mark Cohn, Unisys vice president for homeland security solutions.Cohn, a principal architect of the Department of Homeland Security's US-VISIT Exit system, which uses fingerprint technology to run background checks on visa applicants and verify their entry to and arrival from the United States, says Malaysia offers a preview of how the United States may change in the coming years.Since 2001, the Malay government has issued a biometric "multipurpose card" to Malaysians 12 years and older. The card, which features a thumbprint and photograph, acts as a passport, driver's license, ATM card, toll and parking pass, and medical record that lists blood type and any allergies.The card is convenient to use -- but it's a nightmare for Malaysians who lose it or have it stolen. Crime syndicates in Malaysia have altered cards with different photographs and used them to give members new identities, though the Malay government insists these identity thieves can't access the original cardholders' personal information. Special chip technology and other password features prevent this, they say. Also, the cardholder's fingerprint -- rather than being visible on the card -- is encrypted in the card itself: To reveal the fingerprint, the card must be inserted into a special biometric device that compares the encrypted print with that of the person claiming to be the cardholder.For anyone who has read Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four," where "telescreens" keep track of people's lives, this new biometric technology will seem like fiction come to life. It's showing up everywhere. By the end of this year, U.S. passport agencies hope to issue "electronic passports" with computer chips that have digital photos of the holders. With the help of face-recognition machines, airport security can compare a photo with the face of the passport holder. For two years, an American corporation, VeriChip, has sold government-approved electronic chips that are inserted under people's skin to give doctors instant access to patients' medical histories.In 2008, as mandated by the Real ID Act, states plan to issue driver's licenses linked to a database that includes each license holder's photo and Social Security number. These licenses (civil liberties groups call them national identity cards) will likely include a biometric photo of the driver accessible by authorities.In the meantime, banks are considering using iris scans and even palm scans at ATMs in an effort to cut down on fraud. (In 1999, Bank United in Texas adopted iris-scan technology at three of its ATMs in a test that was discontinued when Washington Mutual took over the bank.)Some people love the new technology. Others shun it.Pay By Touch admits it has encountered some resistance among shoppers it approached in supermarkets that already use the company's fingerprint service. But Morris, its president, says many of these customers are quickly won over by the convenience of Pay By Touch, which is free for consumers, and that the company keeps data points based on users' fingerprints, not actual fingerprints. So far, supermarkets in 40 states use the Pay By Touch system.Pay By Touch, which is based in San Francisco, wouldn't say which Bay Area supermarket chain will start using its fingerprint system in the next four months -- only that the chain will use the system in just a handful of its Bay Area stores. Pay By Touch users sign up voluntarily and are under no obligation to use it at the checkout line.Pay By Touch says it takes great care to safeguard its users' data. After fingerprints are converted into algorithms, they're encrypted, then stored in IBM computers. Those algorithms can't be reconverted into an exact copy of the fingerprint, though Pay By Touch may eventually store users' actual fingerprints if the technology improves, Morris says. The company insists it will never sell users' personal information or fingerprints to anyone else -- a pledge that's backed up in writing when users sign up with the company. But what if federal authorities, citing national security, insist on the finger scan and payment history of a Pay By Touch user?Pam Dixon, who heads the World Privacy Forum, a public research group, went to Chicago to warn potential Pay By Touch users about possible dangers."It didn't stick," she says. "People were (more) concerned with (convenience than) the potential risks. People can put their thumb on a pad and be done with it. But meanwhile, their biometric data is sitting with another company, a third party, that's subject to subpoena. One argument that I made: Let's say that every supermarket in the country, particularly the large chains, (use) a biometric payment system. It's a law enforcement dream because who needs a biometric database run by the U.S. government when you've got one being run by private companies?"Citing the recent disclosure by the Veterans Administration, which said a computer with credit information on millions of veterans had been stolen, Dixon says, "The second issue is information security. If the VA can't keep its records secure, which is a government agency that has all sorts of strict controls that are supposed to be in place, how on Earth can a private company without the resources of something like the VA manage to keep something secure? When we have a credit card stolen, we can call the credit card company and say, 'Give me a new number.' But you can't do that with your biometric. You can't say, 'Give me a new fingerprint.' "Morris dismisses such concerns, saying that Pay By Touch will actually decrease the likelihood that consumers' credit information is stolen or misappropriated. "I think (Pay By Touch users) get pretty rapidly that it's the ultimate way to secure their private data," he says. "It connects (their accounts) to something that's uniquely them, as opposed to handing a credit card over to a stranger or writing a personal check that seven or eight humans touch before it gets in their statement. Securing information by a biometric is a giant leap forward. (Users) like that they don't have to pull their card out anymore. They (tell us they) like that they don't have to carry their (purses or wallets) through the parking lot of an urban supermarket. There's a physical security benefit. Their numbers are never displayed. The safety of securing their data is the No. 1 thing they like."The marketplace will determine whether the public is ready to accept commercial fingerprint identification. Investors in Pay By Touch believe that day is here, capitalizing the company with $190 million in the past 12 months. More than 2.5 million shoppers already use the Pay By Touch system. Morris envisions a day when all stores -- even mom-and-pop ones -- offer a Pay By Touch option.Soon, customers will be able to use Pay By Touch from home with the help of fingerprint readers attached to their computers. In ancient China, rulers would put their fingerprints on documents to give them an official seal. Artists would also mark their work with prints. It wasn't until the late 1800s that authorities realized they could use fingerprints to catch criminals. Their evolution as a way to pay for groceries is a 21st century twist fueled by technology. TheAssociation considers the program important for the industry, the members ofAAPG and the country.” Outgoing PTTC Chairman Gene Ames noted: “Strengths ofPTTC will be the same – most universities will stay engaged, regional volunteergroups will be autonomous and work closely with the universities,cross-discipline diversity will be encouraged, and producers will comprise themajority of the volunteers. DOE remains a strong supporter and will strivetoward some funding albeit at a lower level than historical.” Members of the newboard of directors will be announced later. Robotic suit helps paralyzed walk

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A new robotic suit could transform the lives of paralyzed people, giving them the ability to walk again.
The invention, known as ReWalk, acts like a kind of exoskeleton. It consists of lightweight, motorized leg supports and an assortment of intricate motion sensors.
Users wear a backpack that holds a computerized control box which helps the medical device recognize when a step needs to be taken.
"Standing changes my whole environment. I don't have to look from the bottom up. Now I am eye to eye with everybody," Radi Kaiof, who has used the device, told CNN.
Kaiof, a former Israeli soldier, was paralyzed from the waist down 20 years ago. He doesn't have feeling in his legs but is still able to move with the use of the robotic suit
With the assistance of crutches, which offer balance and support, people paralyzed from the waist down can walk, bend, sit and even climb stairs when they wear the suit.
The futuristic invention offers an alternative to using a wheelchair for those who have functioning upper bodies and are capable of standing with the use of supports.
It is the creation of Dr. Amit Goffer, an engineer and founder of Haifa, Israel-based high-tech firm Argo Medical Technologies. Goffer was inspired to create the device more than a decade ago after he became disabled in an accident.
The medical technoloqy that could help paraplegics do what was once considered impossible isn't available for purchase yet. The device wasn't ready for testing until late 2007 and currently is in clinical trials in Tel Aviv.
More trials are planned for the United States and Europe, and if the product receives the necessary approvals, it could hit the market in 2010.
The price of the device hasn't been set yet, but is expected to be comparable with the typical average yearly expense of using a wheelchair.
The robotic suit improves the quality of life of people paralyzed from the waist down, according to Goffer, who wanted to give paraplegics an alternative to using a wheelchair. It also benefits their overall health since it keeps their bodies active all day long, he says.
But when it comes down to it, the invention is all about helping people regain respect. Dignity is "the No. 1 problem" for people who use wheelchairs, says Goffer.
For Kaiof, the former soldier, the robotic suit has changed his life. Before he tried it on, his daughter had never seen him stand before.
When he stood before her for the first time, she couldn't believe just how tall he was, he recounted to CNN.

High-Efficiency Generators for Hybrid Vehicles

Free-piston engines could be used to generate electricity as efficiently as, and less expensively than, fuel cells.An unconventional engine design is attracting attention as a potential alternative to hydrogen fuel cells or conventional engines in some hybrid vehicles. Called the free-piston engine, it could be used to generate electricity as efficiently as fuel cells yet cost less.Free-piston engines aren't new: they were invented in the 1920s. But the increased recent focus on hybrid cars has led a growing number of research groups and automakers to start research programs to develop the technology. Unlike in conventional engines, there is no mechanical connection between the piston and a crankshaft (hence the name free-piston). Since the design allows for improved combustion and less friction, the engines could be far more efficient in generating electricity than either conventional generators or newer fuel-cell technology.Having a cheap and efficient way to generate electricity is becoming more important as automakers develop electric vehicles with onboard generators for recharging the battery pack and extending range. Such vehicles, called series plug-in hybrids or extended-range electric vehicles, are to be sold starting in late 2010. (Click here for a comparison of different hybrid and electric vehicle types.) The first will use generators based on conventional engines. But later models could incorporate fuel cells or other unconventional generators, such as free-piston engines.The potential high efficiency of free-piston engines gives them an advantage over conventional generators, and their ability to use a variety of fuels is an advantage over hydrogen fuel cells. What's more, free-piston engines don't require expensive materials such as the platinum catalysts needed in fuel cells, so they could be cheaper too.Automakers such as GM, Lotus, and Volvo have started to investigate the possibility of using such engines in future vehicles. Meanwhile, in the past couple of years, an increasing number of academic research teams have started developing the engines. So far, most have focused on computer simulations. An exception is a research group at Sandia National Laboratory led by Sandia researcher Peter Van Blarigan that has been testing physical components of free-piston engines. He is assembling a complete free-piston engine prototype, a project that he expects to complete within a year.In conventional internal combustion engines, multiple pistons are connected via rods to a crankshaft that, via the transmission, drives the wheels. Free-piston engines do away with the crankshaft: the pistons aren't connected to anything. Instead, two opposing pistons just shuttle back and forth inside a chamber. To generate electricity, the pistons could be equipped with rows of magnets that shuttle past metal coils to create an electrical current.Van Blarigan's experiments suggest that these engines could be 50 percent efficient at generating electricity--close to the efficiency of hydrogen fuel cells and much more efficient than conventional generators. Free-piston engines are efficient in part because they have fewer moving parts than conventional engines do. The engine configuration also makes it practical to tune the engine so that the fuel in a combustion chamber burns very quickly. Faster combustion allows the engine to get more work out of a given amount of fuel, improving efficiency. It can also improve emissions.The free-piston design can also allow the engine to be instantly optimized for different fuels, such as hydrogen, natural gas, ethanol, gasoline, and diesel. Ideally, drivers could use whatever fuel is cheap and readily available.The development of free-piston engines, however, is still at an early stage. "The free-piston has some unique features--simplicity and variable compression--which make it intriguing," says Gary Smyth, the science director of GM's Powertrain Systems Research Lab. "But [they] also pose a number of challenges."Van Blarigan says that one major concern is the sound of the engines: the fast explosions are very loud and will be difficult to muffle. But perhaps the biggest issue is control. In a conventional engine, the movement of the pistons is constrained by the rods and crankshaft, which help even out any variations from cycle to cycle. The free-piston engine is more flexible. That allows for using different fuels, but it makes necessary some sort of active control mechanism to ensure that each cycle is the same: variations could cause poor performance and increased emissions. High-speed computers and the ability to electronically control piston movement in a free-piston generator (via the coils and magnets) could help engineers solve this problem.Whether the engines will be significantly cheaper and more efficient than conventional engines is unclear, says John Heywood, a professor of mechanical engineering at MIT. "There's been enough development to say that it works. But with very different engine geometries, it's hard to work out just how good it is. Is it really better?" As research progresses, it will need to answer questions about efficiency, emissions, performance, and especially cost, Heywood says.Meanwhile, conventional internal combustion engines keep getting better, which could make it difficult for the free-piston design to get a foothold

Beyond customer identification checks, the ongoing monitoring of transfers and financial transactions against a range of risk variables forms an integral part of the KYC compliance mandate.But to understand the importance of KYC compliance for financial service providers better, its origins need to be examined.Origins of Know Your Customer (KYC) complianceThe arrival of the new millennium was marred by a spate of terrorist attacks and corporate scandals that unmasked the darker features of globalisation. These events highlighted the role of money laundering in cross-border crime and terrorism, and underlined the need to clamp down on the exploitation of financial systems worldwide.Know Your Customer (KYC) legislation was principally not absent prior to 9/11. Regulated financial service providers for a long time have been required to conduct due diligence and customer identification checks in order to mitigate their own operation risks, and to ensure a consistent and acceptable level of service.In essence, the USA PATRIOT Act was not so much a radical departure from prior legislation as it was a firmer and more extensive articulation of existing laws. The Act would lead to the more rigorous regulation of a greater range of financial services providers, and expanded the authority of American law enforcement agencies in the fighting of terrorism, both in the USA and abroad.In October 2001, President George W. Bush signed off the USA PATRIOT Act, effectively providing federal regulators with a new range of tools and powers for fighting terror financing and money laundering. During July 2002, the US Treasury proceeded to introduce Section 326 of the PATRIOT Act, a clause that removed some key burdens for regulators and added significant enforcement muscle to the Act.What 9/11 changed, in essence, was the extent to which existing legislation was being implemented. Using the provisions of the earlier anti-terrorism USA Act as a foundation, it included the Financial Anti-Terrorism Act, which allowed for federal jurisdiction over foreign money launders and money laundered through foreign banks. Significantly, it is this anti-terror law that would make the creation of an Anti Money Laundering (AML) programme compulsory for all financial institutions and service providers.Section 326 of the USA PATRIOT Act dealt specifically with the identification of new customers (“CIP regulation”), and made extensive provisions in terms of KYC and the methods employed to verify client identities.In accordance with this piece of updated KYC legislation, federal regulators would hold financial institutions accountable for the effectiveness of their initial customer identification and ongoing KYC screening. Institutions are required to keep detailed records of the steps that were taken to verify prospective clients’ identities.Although current KYC legislation does not yet demand the exclusion of specific types of foreign-issued identification, it recommends the usage of machine-verifiable identity documents. The ability to notify financial institutions if concerns regarding specific types of identification were to arise, combined with a risk-based approach to KYC, proved to provide a robust mechanism for addressing security concerns.Effectively, the risk-based approach to customer due diligence grants regulated institutions a certain degree of flexibility to determine the forms of identification they will accept, and under which conditions.KYC compliance: Implications for banks, lawyers and accounting firmsThe KYC compliance mandate, for all its positive outcomes, has burdened companies and organisations with a substantial administrative obligation. DOĞRU ZAMANI BEKLEYİN

Çocuğa zorlamadan kazandırılan nezaket kuralları, toplum tarafından onay görür. Onay gören çocuğun aidiyet duygusu artar, özgüven duygusu gelişir. Çocuğa nezaket eğitimi nasıl verilmeli?Toplum hayatında insan ilişkileri önemli bir yer tutar. Nezaketi, inceliği, tabiatının bir gereği haline getiren; önce kendisine sonra da karşısındakine saygılı olmasını bilen insanların, ihtiyaçlarını daha kolay temin edecekleri ve daha çok mutlu olacakları açıktır.Kimi zaman bir teşekkür, kimi zaman bir çiçek, hallolması zor birçok meselenin üstesinden gelebilir.Geleceğe uzanan çizgide çocuklarımızın edepli, nazik hanımefendiler ve beyefendiler olması için aile içi ilişkilerde eşler arası uyum, nezaket ve çocuğa yaklaşım tarzı büyük önem arz etmektedir. Nezaket kurallarının birçok tezahürü var. Onları burada sayacak değiliz. Ancak aile içi ilişkilerde incelik ve samimiyetin topluma yayılacağı mukadderdir. Özellikle okulöncesi dönemde ailelerin çocukların bilinçaltı müktesebatına kazandırması gereken birtakım nezaket kuralları vardır.

Çocuğa nezaket kuralları ve saygı eğitimi nasıl verilmeli?

İşte yapılması gerekenler:

1- Yetişkinler iyi bir model olmalıEdebin ilk muallimleri anne-baba olduğu için ebeveynler öncelikle birbirine karşı edepli ve nazik olmalılar. Bu nedenle çocuğunuz, eşinize karşı saygılı olduğunuzu görsün ve bunu hissetsin. Hayatın akışı içerisinde zaman zaman eşler arasında tartışmalar çıkabilir. Burada eşler birbirini çocuğa şikâyet ederek, çocuğu hakem tayin etmemelidir. Dikkat edilmesi gereken bir diğer nokta da çocuk tartışmaya şahit olmuşsa aynı konunun çözümlendiğine de şahit olması gerekir. Sözgelimi tartışma çocuğun önünde olup çözüm yatak odasında olmamalıdır.

2- Nezaket, saygı aile içinde de olmalıEbeveyni tarafından kibar davranılan çocukların görgü kurallarını öğrenmeleri daha kolay olur. Kimi yetişkinler sosyal kabul için aile ortamının dışında nazik ve kibar olurken maalesef aile içerisinde aynı nezaket ve inceliği göstermiyorlar. Dışarıdaki insanlara "teşekkür ederim", "lütfen" gibi ifadeleri nasıl kullanıyorsanız aynı ifadeleri çocuğunuza hitap ederken de dilinizden düşürmemelisiniz. Ayrıca çocuklar zaman zaman çevresindekilerce, "hadi şu amcaya bir küfret" gibi ifadelerle argoya zorlanabilmektedir. Ebeveynler, bu tür ortamların oluşmasına izin vermemeli ve aile içerisinde "lan, hişt..." gibi kelimelere perhiz getirmelidirler.

3- Erken yaşlardan başlayarak eğitimBebeklik döneminden başlayarak yumuşak dokunuşlar ve nazik kelimelerle çocuk öğrenmeye başlar. Örnek olarak çocuğunuz canınızı acıtacak şekilde elleriyle saçınızı çektiğinde ona bağırmayın. Bunun yerine, çocuğun yumruğunu yavaşça gevşeterek ve sakin bir şekilde "bunu yapmak yok", "nazik ol" gibi ifadelerle çocuk eğitilebilir. Çocuğun bu tür davranışlarına sesinizi yükselterek tepki verdiğiniz zaman çocuk ürker ve korkar. Bundan sonraki davranışlarında ürkek, korkak ve stresli durumlar gözlenebilir. Çocuğa aile içerisinde yaşına göre provalarla zorlamadan aşağıda sıralanan konular işlenmelidir.Tanışma nasıl olur? Çocuğunuzun kendi cümleleriyle kendini tanıtmasını sağlayabilirsiniz. (2 yaşından sonra)Nasıl selam verilir ve teşekkür edilir? (Çocuğun konuşmaya başlamasıyla birlikte öğretilebilir.) Bu yaşta çocuk selamın anlamını çok bilmese de bu davranışıyla toplumda sosyal kabul görür. Bu da çocuğun hem özgüven gelişimini destekler hem de bu davranışlar çocuğun tabiatının bir yanı haline gelir.Neden ve nasıl özür dilenir?(3 yaşından itibaren işlenebilir.)Sofra adabı nasıl olmalıdır?(3 yaşından itibaren işlenebilir.)Misafir karşılama ve uğurlama nasıl olmalıdır? 4- Baskı yapmayın, çocuğunuzu bir başkasıyla karşılaştırmayınÇocuğunuzu topluluk önünde kibar davranma konusunda utandırmayın. Bu tür davranışlar çocuğunuzun kendisine ve size karşı saygısını zedeler. Kızgınlık ve öfke duygusundan başka bir işe de yaramaz. Görgü kuralları baş başa sakin bir ortamda öğretilmelidir. İlla ki bir şeyler söylenecekse çocuğu nazikçe bir kenara alarak, utandırmadan ifade edilmelidir.

5- Sınırlarınızı kontrol edebilirÇocuğunuzun özellikle 4-6 yaşları arasında muziplikleri artar ve inat davranışlarıyla sizi kışkırtır. Bu durum çocuğun gelişiminde bir süreçtir. Çocuk bu tür davranışlarıyla sizin disiplin sınırlarınızı kontrol ederek kişiliğini oluşturmakta, sınırları ve yasakları öğrenmektedir. Çocuğun bu sınırları ve yasakları öğrenmesi sizin tavırlarınıza bağlıdır. Çocuğun muzipliklerini ve kışkırtmalarını gülerek karşılarsanız ve bu tür davranışlarını zekâsına bağlarsanız, çocuk kendi karakter sınırlarını gamsız, saygısız, aşırı rahat tavırlarla belirler. Çocuğun bu davranışlarını tam tersi, katı disiplin ve şiddetle karşılarsanız bu defa da katı itaat kültürüyle yetişmiş, kendine güvenmeyen ve hakkını aramaktan çekinen, saygı ve itaatte sosyal sınırların ne olduğunu ayırt edemeyen kişilikler olmaktadırlar. Uygun olan yaklaşım, anne-baba ortak tavırla, kıvamında bir otorite ile çocuğa, yanlış olan ve yapmaması gereken davranışlarla doğru olan ve yapması gereken davranışları fark ettirmektir.

6- İyi davranışlarını takdir edinÇocuğa beklentilerinizi ifade ederken neleri yapmamalarını değil, neleri yapmalarını istediğinizi söyleyin ve iyi davranışlarını takdir edin. Örnek olarak; "Ellerinle yemek yeme yerine, lütfen çatalı kullanır mısın? Çatalını ne kadar kibar tutuyorsun. Yemeğini kendi önünden yemen ne kadar güzel" gibi ifadeler çocuğunuzu nazik davranışlar için yüreklendirir.

Aile içinde çocuğa karşı tutum çocuğun karekterinin gelişmesinde çok önemli bir etkendir. Bundan dolayı anne babanın çocuğa tutarlı bir şekilde, anlayış ve sabırla yaklaşması gerekir. Aile ortamı çocuğun sosyalleştiği ilk ortam olduğundan çocuğa karşı bilinçli yaklaşım gelecekte kendine güvenli, sağlıklı düşünebilen, uyumlu, sevmeyi ve sevilmeyi bilen, sorumluluk ve kişilik sahibi bireyler yetişmesi için ilk adım olacaktır.
Çocuğumu "doğru" yetiştireceğim demekten çok çocuğuma nasıl yaklaşırsam onun için daha iyi bir ebeveyn olurum demelisiniz. Çocuğunuza sevgi ile yaklaşmanız bir ön kaşuldur bunun dışında şu noktalara dikkat etmek gerekir:
•Çocuğunuzu yetiştirirken onun sizin istediğiniz kişiliğe bürüneceğini düşünmeyin. Onunla kurduğunuz iyi ilişki sayesinde ona tavsiyelerde bulunabilirsiniz.

•Onun size saygılı olmasını istediğiniz kadar siz de ona saygı göstermelisiniz.

•Ona yeterince zaman ayırın ve hoşgörülü davranmaya çalışın (kendi fikirlerini söyleme şansı tanıyın).

•Örnek bir aile olmaya çalışın ve hatalarınız olduğunda bunu kabullenin, ona asla yalan söylemeyin.

•Bazı şeyleri sizinle yaşayarak öğrenmesini sağlayın.

•Onun yanlışlarıyla fazlaca ilgilenmekten çok doğrularını yakalamaya çalışın.

•Para kullanmasını öğretmeye çalışın, boşuna para harcamak yerine gerektiğinde harcamasını öğretin.

•Onu devamlı başkalarıyla kıyaslamaktan kaçının ve kendisini aşmasını sağlayın. •Ona ilgi göstermekten kaçınmayın ama bunu aşırıya kaçırmayın bundan sıkılabilir.

•Size yardım etmek istediğinde ona fırsat verin ve onu gayretinden ötürü kutlayın. Bu ona kendine güvenme duygusunu verecektir. •Hatalarını gördüğünde onu suçlamayın yapması gerekenin ne olduğunu söyleyin.

•Eğitimine önem verin devamlı öğretmeniyle iletişim halinde olun.

•Ödevlerinde yardımcı olun ama asla onun yapması gerekeni siz yapmayın.

•Davranışlarına dikkat edin sürekli aynı hatayı yapıyorsa neden böyle davrandığını araştırın ve ona bunu düzeltmesinde yardımcı olun.

•Toplum içinde onu asla suçlamayın, bunu yalnız olduğunuz zamanda güzel bir biçimde söyleyin. •Onu sevdiğinizi ona söyleyin, bunu göstermekten asla kaçınmayın.

•Yatmadan önce çocuğunuza kitap okuyun, okuma alışkanlığı bu yaşlarda edinilir. Eğer mali durumunuz elveriyorsa ona resimli kitaplar alın okuma bilmese de kitaplarla aşina olması ilerde okulda daha başarılı olmasına yardımcı olacaktır..

•Bütün çocukların da büyükler gibi ayrı bir birey olduğunu unutmayın. Onlara bir birey gibi yaklaşın, kişisel isteklerine saygı duyun.

•Hata yapması için ona fırsat verin, kimse düşmeden bisiklete binmeyi öğrenemez.

•Çok fazla kural koymayın ama olan kurallara da uyun.

Yüzey Şekilleri
İspanya'daki en yüksek dağ Kanarya Adaları'na ait olan Tenerife Adası'ndaki Pico del Teide (3718 m)'dir. Anakaradaki en yüksek dağ Granada Eyaleti'ndeki Sierra Nevada'da bulunan Mulhacén (3482 m) dağıdır.İspanya'nın kuzey kıyısı sadece Gijón ve Avilés ve Ribadeo ve La Coruña'nın arasında önemli çıkıntılar gösterirken, diğer yerlerde neredeyse düz bir hat şeklinde ilerler. Ülkenin diğer kıyılarına nazaran bu kıyı şeritleri dik ve aşılması zor kıyılar olarak tanımlanabilirler.Bunun nedeni burada bulunan dağların hemen hemen her yerde denizin içine kadar girmesidir. Çocukların dişleri niye çürüyor?
Süt dişleri normal dişlere oranla daha çok organik madde içerirler, bu nedenle çürümeye daha yatkınlardır, daha kolay ve hızlı çürürler.
Çocuklar, çürüğün erken döneminde görülebilen soğuk sıcak hassasiyeti ve hafif ağrı gibi sinyalleri zamanında yorumlayamazlar. Olayı ancak dayanılamayacak kadar ağrı olmasında farkederler ki bu durumda çok geç kalınmış olabilir.
Çocuklar ağız bakımına yetişkinler kadar dikkat edemezler. Çocuğun el becerisi, merakı ve ebeveynin tutumu diş fırçalama alışkanlığını belirler.
Özellikle annelerin sıklıkla yaptığı bir hata da emzik ya da biberonu şeker, reçel vb. gibi gıdalara batırarak çocuklara vermeleri veya uyku aralarında şekerli süt, meyve suyu gibi gıdalara alıştırmalarıdır. Böylece beslenme düzensizliğinden dolayı dişler çürümeye yatkın hale gelir.
Çürük oluşumu engellenebilir mi?
Çürüğü tamamen engelleyebilecek bir aşı yada ilaç henüz geliştirilemedi. Ancak, çürük sayısını azaltmaya yönelik bazı malzemeler günümüzde kullanılmaktadır, bunlardan birisi; "fissür örtücü" dediğimiz malzemedir. Diş çürükleri genellikle azı ve küçükazı dişlerinin, çiğneyici yüzlerinde bulunan "fissür" adı verilen oluklarda başlar. Bahsettiğimiz malzemeyle olukların üzeri kapatılıp, o bölgeye mikrop, yemek artığı vs. nin sızması engellenerek çürük başlaması önlenir. Bu işlem, 6 yaşından itibaren çıkan kalıcı azı ve küçükazı dişlerine de uygulanabilir.
Çürüğü engellemenin başka bir yolu da dişlerin çürüğe karşı direncini artırmaktır. Dişlere yüzeysel florür uygulanması suretiyle bu direnç kazandırılır.
Süt dişlerinin önemi nedir?
Süt dişlerinin birinci görevi çocuğun düzgün beslenmesini sağlamaktır. Ayrıca konuşmanın düzgün gelişimi de süt dişlerinin varlığına bağlıdır. Bunların yanında aşağıdaki gibi bir görüntü, hiç kimsenin çocuğunda görmek istemeyeceği ciddi estetik sorunlara yol açmaktadır.Süt dişleri kapladıkları alanı kendilerinin yerine gelecek olan kalıcı diş için korumakta ve kalıcı diş sürerken ona rehberlik yapmaktadırlar.Süt dişi erken çekildiği zaman bu doğal yer tutuculuk fonksiyonu da ortadan kalkmaktadır.
Süt dişlerindeki çürükler tedavi edilmeli mi?
Tedavi edilmeyen süt dişi çürükleri, ağrı, kötü koku, çiğneme zorluğu, beslenme bozukluğu ve çirkin görüntüye yol açar. Bu dönemdeki tedavi edilmeyen diş bozuklukları, ileride diş çarpıklığı, çene gelişiminde bozukluk ve genel sağlık problemlerine (romatizmadan kalp rahatsızlıklarına kadar) sebep olabilecektir. Dolayısıyla süt dişlerindeki çürükler, "nasıl olsa yerine yenileri gelecek" yanılgısına düşmeden tedavi edilmelidir.
Süt dişlerindeki çürükler ; ağrı ile çocuğun çok küçük yaşlarda tanışmasına ve gelecekte bazı fobileri olmasına neden olabilir . Ayrıca bu çürükler süt dişlerinin çok erken kaybına neden olabilir.
Çocuklarda diş yaralanmaları
Çocuklarda dişlerin zarar gördüğü kazalarda zaman kaybetmeden müdahalede bulunulmalıdır. Doğru tanı konması çok önemlidir. Bunun için hekiminiz size, kazanın ne zaman ve nerede olduğunu, darbenin ne taraftan geldiğini, kaza sonrası baygınlık, kusma, hafıza kaybı vb. olup olmadığını soracaktır. Verilen bilgiler doğrultusunda en doğru tedavi uygulanabilecektir.
Çocuklardaki diş yaralanmaları, bazan kalıcı dişin tamamıyla yuvasından ayrılmasına sebep olabilir. Bu durumda çıkan diş ile birlikte acilen dişhekiminize gitmelisiniz. Bu esnada diş, bir bardak sütün içinde, eğer süt mevcut değilse, temiz bir su içinde muhafaza edilmelidir.
Bebeklerde ağız bakımı
Bebeklerin, en azından ilk dört ay anne sütü ile beslenmeleri ağız çevresindeki yumuşak doku ve kas fonksiyonlarının normal gelişimini sağlayacaktır. Anne sütünün yetersiz olduğu durumlarda fizyolojik başlıklı (damaklı, kesik uçlu) biberon kullanımı gerekir.
Bebekler 1 yaşından itibaren bardak ve kaşıkla beslenmeye alıştırılmalıdır.
Biberonla beslenme en fazla 2 yaşına kadar devam edebilir. Parmak emme, yalancı emzik kullanma gibi alışkanlıklara 2 – 2,5 yaşına kadar izin verilebilir. Eğer parmak emme alışkanlığı mevcutsa, bunun sebebi araştırılarak 3 – 6 yaş arasında bu alışkanlık mutlaka giderilmelidir.
Solunum problemleri, çene gelişmesi üzerine olumsuz etki eder. Burundan değil de, sadece ağızdan soluma durumu mevcutsa (bu durum uykuda daha iyi anlaşılır) muhakkak kulak burun boğaz uzmanına danışılmalıdır.
Çocuklarda diş fırçalama ne zaman başlamalıdır?
Bebek 6-8 aylıkken, (yani ilk dişler ağızda göründüğünde) temizleme işlemi başlamalıdır. Sabah kahvaltısı sonrası ve gece yatmadan önce dişleri (en azından çiğneme yüzeylerini) temiz bir tülbent ya da gazlı bezi ıslatarak silmek, temizlemek yerinde olur.
Diş fırçası kullanımına ise çocuğun arka dişlerinin çıkmasından sonra (ortalama 2,5 - 3 yaşında ) başlanması uygundur.
Okul öncesi çocuklarda diş fırçalama için bir teknik uygulatmak çok zordur. Bu yaşlarda önemli olan, çocuğa diş fırçalama alışkanlığı kazandırmaktır. Çocuklar diş fırçalarken çoğu zaman dişlerin görünen ya da kolay ulaşılan yüzlerini fırçalar. Oysa çürüklerin önlenmesi için dişlerin ara yüzleri ve çiğneyici yüzeylerini çok daha iyi temizlemek gerekir. Bu nedenle fırçalamadan sonra Anne-Babanın kontrolü iyi olur.
Çocuklar için nasıl bir diş fırçası seçilmeli?
Çocuğun ağız büyüklüğüne uygun, yumuşak ve naylon kıllardan üretilmiş diş fırçaları kullanılmalıdır. Sert fırçalar dişleri aşındıracağı için kullanımı uygun değildir. Eskimiş bir süpürgeyle süpürme işlemi nasıl yapılamazsa, eski bir fırçayla da dişler fırçalanamaz. Fırça kılları aşınır aşınmaz (Ortalama 6 ay) mutlaka değiştirilmelidir.
Çocuğuma dişlerini günde kaç kez fırçalatmalıyım?
Sabah kahvaltısı sonrası ve gece yatmadan önce, sadece üçer dakikalık etkili bir fırçalama işlemi yeterlidir. Her iyi alışkanlık gibi diş fırçalama alışkanlığı da çocukluk döneminde kazanılacaktır.
Çocuklarda bazı ağız ve diş problemleri :
1) Diş Gıcırdatma:
· NedenleriStress, agresif, takıntı veya sıkılgan kişilik yapıları, anne-babası diş gıcırdatan çocuklar bu alışkanlığa daha eğilimlidir.
· BelirtileriDişlerde aşınma, uyurken çıkartılan gıcırdatma sesleri, yüz kaslarında ağrı, çene ekleminde problemler, baş ağrısı, dişlerde sallanma ve hassasiyet.
· TedavisiÖncelikle psikolojik açıdan diş gıcırdatmaya yol açan faktörler ortadan kaldırılmaya çalışılır.Bu başarılamaz, hastaya takıp çıkartılabilien bir gece plağı yapılır.
2) Parmak Emme:
· Nedenleri: Parmak emme küçük yaşlarda sık görülen bir alışkanlıktır. Genellikle dört yaşına kadar kendiliğinden ortadan kalkar. Alışkanlığın sürekli dişlerin çıktığı yaşlarda da sürmesi, bu dişlerde ve damakta yapısal bozukluklara yol açar. Bu bozuklukların nedeni parmağın ön dişlere ve damağa uyguladığı başınçtır. Ortaya çıkan bozukluğun derecesi emmenin süresine, sıklığına, şiddetine ve emme sırasında parmağın pozisyonuna bağlıdır.
· Tedavisi:Parmak emmeyi önlemenin en etkili yolu parmak emmeye eğilim gösteren çocuğu emziğe alıştırmaktır. Emziğin hem verdiği zarar daha azdır, hemde daha kolay bırakılabilir.Tedavinin zamanlaması çok önemlidir. Çocuğun kendisi bu alışkanlıktan kurtulmayı istemedikçe, tedavinin başarıya ulaşması imkansızdır.Çocuğun çevre baskısına uğramaması ve alay edilmemesi için okul çağından önce bırakması psikolojik yönden çok faydalıdır.Çocuk baskı altına alınmadan cesaretlendirilerek, ödüllendirilerek pozitif yönlendirilmelidir.Eğer her şeye rağmen 6 yaşına kadar alışkanlık kırılamamışsa diş hekimine başvurularak profesyonel yardım alınması gereklidir.
3) Emzik
Bebekler için emmek rahatlamanın ve güven içinde hissetmenin en doğal yoludur.Eğer bebek parmak emme eğilimi gösteriyorsa, derhal emziğe yönlendirilmelidir. Emzik parmak emmeye göre hem daha az zararlıdır; hem de sonraki yaşlarda daha kolay bırakılabilir.Emzik günün büyük bir bölümünde değil, sadece gerekli olduğunda verilmelidir.Yapısal bozukluklara yol açmamak için, mümkün olduğu doğal meme yapısındaki emzikler seçilmelidir.Emziklerin yapısının sağlamlığı her gün kontrol edilmelidir.Emziğin büyüklüğü ağzın yapısına uygun olmalıdır.

4) Biberon çürüğü
Bebeğimin dişleri sürer sürmez çürüdü. Nedeni ne olabilir? Bebeklerde bazan dişlerin üzerinde sürer sürmez kahverengi lekeler oluştuğu ya da bu dişlerin kırılıp döküldüğü gözlenir. Aslında bu lekeler diş çürükleridir ve dişler de çürük nedeniyle kırılır. Bu kadar erken bir dönemde çürük oluşmasının nedeni de biberon çürüğü adı verilen çürüklerdir. Bebek beslenmesinde en önemli besin olan anne sütü ya da inek sütü doğal olarak şeker içerir. Gece yatmadan önce yada uyku sırasında bebek anne sütü ya da biberon emerse süt ağızda birikerek mikropların dişleri çürütmesi için elverişli bir ortam oluşturur. Bu nedenle özellikle gece beslenmesi sonrası dişlerin temizliğine özen gösterilmelidir.
Biberon çürüğünden korunmak için ne yapmak gerekir? Bebeklerde meydana gelen çürüklerin tedavisi çok güç olduğundan, koruyucu önlemlerin erken dönemde alınması gerekir.
Bunlar nelerdir?
Bebeğinizin gece ağzında biberonla uyuma alışkanlığını önleyin.
Beslendikten sonra uyutmaya çalışın.
Biberondaki süte şeker, bal pekmez gibi tatlandırıcılar ilave etmeyin.
Bebek beslendikten sonra mutlaka su içirin.
İlk dişlerin sürmeye başlamasıyla gece ve sabah beslenmeleri sonrası temiz, ıslak bir tülbent ile dişlerini silerek temizleyin.
Biberon çürüğünün önemi nedir? Biberon çürüğü görülen dişler tedavi edilmezse ağrı yapar ve iltihaplanır. İltihaplı ya da ağrıyan dişler bebeğin huzursuzlanmasına ve beslenme düzeninin bozulmasına neden olur. İltihap alttan gelecek kalıcı dişler de etkileyip şekillerinin bozuk olmasına yol açar. Bu dişler çekilmek zorunda kalırsa çocukta konuşma problemleri ortaya çıkabilir.
Biberon emmediği halde bebeğimin dişleri çürüdü neden olabilir? Biberonun yanı sıra emziklerin ağlayan bebekleri susturmak amacıyla bal, pekmez, reçel gibi tatlandırıcılara batırılarak verilmesi de biberon çürüklerinin başka bir nedenidir. Bunun yanı sıra, dişler sürdükten sonra oyalanmak amacıyla bebeğin eline verilen karbohidratlı-şekerli gıdalar da diş çürüklerine neden olur. Çocuğu bu tür gıdaların yerine elma, havuç gibi besin değeri yüksek; diş temizliğine yardımcı gıdalara yönlendirmek gerekir.
Çocuklarda hangi diş macunu ne kadar kullanılmalıdır?
Bebeklik döneminde ve üç yaşına kadar çocuklarda diş macunu kullanımı önerilmez. Diş macunu kullanımına üç yaşından sonra başlanmalıdır.Ancak reklamlarda gördüğünüz gibi 3-5 cm. değil, bir leblebi kadar macun fırçalama için yeterli olacaktır.
Diş macunu kullanımına başlandığı dönemde, florürlü diş macunlarından herhangi biri tercih edilebilir. Önemli olan çocuğun seçilen macunun tadını sevip istek duymasıdır.
Fırçalama işleminde macundan çok, etkili bir fırçalama işleminin önemli olduğunu unutmamak gerekir.
Çocuk dişlerinde acil durumlar
Diş Ağrısı:Ağrıyan dişin çevresini temizleyin. Ilık tuzlu su ile gargara yaptırın ve eğer varsa sıkışmış yiyecek artıklarını diş ipi ile uzaklaştırın. Asla dişin üzerine aspirin ya da benzeri ilaçlar koymayın. Çocuğunuza daha önce de denemiş olduğunuz bir ağrı kesici verin ve en kısa sürede bir diş hekimine götürün.
Isırılmış Dudak, Dil, Dudak Yada Yanak:Yaralı bölgeye buz koyun. Eğer kanama varsa, temiz bir gazlı bez ile hafifçe basınç uygulayın. Kanama 15 dakika içinde durmazsa diş hekiminize başvurun.
Diş Tümüyle Çıkmışsa:Dişi bulun. Köküne mümkün olduğunca dokunmadan alın. Diş hekimine gidene kadar dişi saklamak için en ideal ortam süttür. Temiz bir kapta sütün içinde koruyarak en kısa sürede diş hekiminize gidin.
Süt Veya Sürekli Dişlere Travma:Hiç zaman kaybetmeden diş hekiminiz ile temasa geçin. Travmalardan sonra her kaybedilen saat oluşan hasarı büyütmektedir.
Diş Hekiminize ulaşana Kadar:Yarayı ılık su ile temizleyin. O bölgeye soğuk kompres uygulayın. Varsa Kırık diş parçalarını saklayın.

Çevreyi de kirlettik anne sütünü de...

* Her kadının hayalini kurduğu bir düşüm gerçek olmak üzere; yakında anne olacağım. Ben anneliğin etraftan görerek öğrenildiğini, çocuğa karşı sevginin zamanla gelişeceğini düşünürdüm. Fakat daha bebek doğmadan fark ediyorum ki bu sevgi ve koruma benliğimizin en derinlerine kazınmış; aslında sonradan öğrenilecek pek bir şey yok. Bundan sonraki çabam sağlıklı ve iyi bir evlat yetiştirmek olacaktır. Bu nedenle ona daha yakın olabilmek ve yapabileceğimin en iyisini yapmak için çocuğumu emzirmek istiyorum; fakat arada bir anne sütüne dair ileri sürülen endişeler beni korkutuyor. Ne yapmak gerekiyor? Çocuk sevgisi, düşünülecek ya da öğrenilecek bir şey değildir ve entelektüel hiçbir yanı yoktur. Tamamen içgüdüsel bir duygudur. İnsan, türünün devamını sağlayabilmek için en derin genetik kodlarının gereği olarak, çocuk yapmak ister, onları korur ve sever. Anne sütü de hem besin olarak hem de bebeğin duygusal gelişimindeki rolü itibarıyle en mükemmel beslenme yoludur. Fakat bilim dünyasının dikkatini son zamanlarda, küçük ama can sıkıcı bir sorun çekmektedir; anne sütünde küçük miktarlarda tespit edilen kimyasal atıklar. Peki nereden gelmektedir bunlar? Çevreyi kirleten kimyasal maddelerin bir kısmı doğada yok olmadan kalabilmektedir. Havaya, suya ve toprağa yayılan bu maddeler oradan bitki ve hayvanlara geçerler. Bunların yenilmesiyle de kendilerini insan vücudunda bulurlar. Ne şansızlıktır ki; girdikleri gibi vücuttan atılacaklarına yağlı dokulara saklanıp birikirler. Yağ ise anne sütünün önemli bir kısmını oluşturur; dolayısıyla yağda biriken bu kimyasallar anne sütüne de katılmış olur. Bizim yapmamız gereken, kimyasal zehirlerin, tarım ilaçlarının anne sütüne geçmemesi, çocuklarımızı etkilememesi için neler yapabileceğimizi tartışmaktır. Yapılması gerekenlerin başında, dünyaya karşı sorumluluğunu bilen ve toplumsal bilince sahip bireyler olarak çevresel kirliliğe karşı durmak geliyor. Toplumsal bir hareketten önce birey olarak neler yapılabileceği öğrenilmelidir; örneğin doğada parçalanamayan atıkların çoğalmaması için pazardan, marketten alışverişi file ile yapıp naylon poşet kullanmamaktır. Ulaşımda toplu taşımayı tercih edip tek kişinin seyahat ettiği arabalar yüzünden atmosfere yayılan zehirli egzoz gazlarını artırmamaktır. Global ekonomi tüketmek üzerine kurulmuş olsa da aslında tüketilen tek şey, yerine tekrar konulamaz dünyamızdır. Dünyada mutlu yaşayabilecek bir yer bulabilmemiz, ancak daha az tüketmekle mümkündür. Anne sütüne geçebilen kimyasal maddelerin bir çoğundan korunmanın en önemli yolu; yiyip içtiklerinizden geçer. Fakat bu sadece emzirme döneminde yenilip içilenler anlamına gelmemektedir. Çünkü birçok kimyasal atık bedenimizde yıllar içinde birikir, atılmaları da aynı şekilde yıllarca sürebilir. Anne sütü ile beslenme her bebeğin hakkıdır ama anne sütünü sağlıklı tutmak da bizim görevimizdir. Genel olarak hamile olan, hamile kalmayı planlayan ya da süt veren anneler için şu tavsiyelerde bulunulabilir:

* Sigaradan, alkolden uzak durun.

* Evde ve bahçede böcek ilacı kullanmaktan kaçının.

* Boya, tiner, su bazlı olmayan yapıştırıcılar, mobilya cilaları, egzoz gazı, oje ya da saç boyasından uzak durun.

* Kuru temizleyicilerden ve yeni kuru temizleme yapılmış eşyalardan kaçının.

* Dengeli beslenin.

* Kılıç balığı, köpek balığı, kalkan balığı, ton balığı, somon gibi derin su balıklarından ve kirli bölgelerden yakalanan yerel balıklardan; etlerinde yüksek oranda kurşun ve PCB bulunabileceği için kaçının.

* Mümkünse doğal olarak üretilmiş organik gıdaları tercih edin.
